Chicago, Illinois – September 20, 2023 – UFCW Canada extends its warmest congratulations to UFCW’s newly-elected international officers.
At their September 1, 2023 meeting of the UFCW International Board, the International Executive Board elected Milton L. Jones as International Secretary-Treasurer, Lori A. Werner as Executive Vice President, Daniel Pederson as International Vice President (UFCW Local 876), and UFCW Canada Local 1400’s own Lucy Flack Figueiredo as International Vice President.
Long-time UFCW stalwart Shaun Barclay is retiring after serving four years as International Secretary-Treasurer, and after over four decades of dedication and drive on behalf of UFCW members.
“We congratulate Brother Barclay on his exemplary career, and his well-deserved retirement,” says UFCW Canada President Paul Meinema. “And congratulations to Brother Milton Jones, Sister Lori Werner, and Sister Lucy Figueiredo; this is tremendously good news for our UFCW family. They bring courage and commitment to their roles and supporting the rights of everyday workers.”
Milton Jones began his career at a Kroger in Florence, Alabama, and has been a labor activist for 40 years. He joined the UFCW International in 1990 and was elected to Executive Vice President in 1990.
Lori Werner has been with the UFCW for almost 40 years, starting as a clerk typist in the UFCW Benefits Office in 1984. In 2016 she became Executive Assistant to the President and was elected in September of 2017 as an International Vice President on the International Executive Board.
Lucy Flack Figueiredo is the President of UFCW 1400 in Saskatchewan. She joined UFCW 1400 in 1996 when the Salvation Army thrift store in Saskatoon joined the local union. In 2016, she was elected as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 1400, and in 2021, President of UFCW Canada Local 1400 – the largest private sector union local in Saskatchewan.
