Uber driver's name cleared thanks to UFCW Canada

Toronto – June 27, 2023 – UFCW Canada has helped Toronto-area Uber driver Shailesh G. clear his name from fraud accusations and continue to earn an income after being reactivated to the Uber platform with assistance from the union.

Shailesh dreamt of building a better life for himself and his partner when moving to Canada a few years ago. His dream turned into a nightmare when he was deactivated from the Uber platform due to accusations of fraud and lost his primary source of income.

“I was afraid,” says Shailesh. “I didn’t want these allegations to follow me for the rest of my life. I wanted to correct the issue and clear my name.”

Shailesh accidentally uploaded a wrong photo during Uber’s verification check which led to his account being promptly deactivated. Locked out of his primary way to earn a living, Shailesh turned to UFCW Canada for help and explained his story. UFCW Canada submitted his case to Uber and he was reactivated to the platform and back on the road.
