Food processing members at TruHarvest secure first contract – UFCW 1006A
Toronto – February 17, 2023 – UFCW 1006A members at TruHarvest are celebrating a first contract victory that comes off the heels of a strong organizing campaign at the meat processing facility a year prior.
“We are proud to stand with our members from TruHarvest as their solidarity and determination were vital to achieving this first contract despite the challenging circumstances,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “Belonging to a union is the key to improving workers’ rights and livelihoods.”
In their first contract members were able to secure wage increases, overtime pay, guaranteed hours of work and short-term disability benefits, among other improvements. Many of the workers were aware of the benefits of belonging to a union working at the former Ryding-Regency Meat Packers where TruHarvest is now located.
