BDM scholarship assists student-athlete balancing school and sport

Thunder Bay, Ont. – January 10, 2023 – Lakehead University student-athlete Seth Johnson, dependent of UFCW 175 member Franz Johnson, is grateful for the opportunity as he seeks to excel on and off the court this semester.

“This scholarship is a great help to me while I further my studies in kinesiology, while playing point guard for the Men’s Basketball Team,” says the second-year Lakehead University Thunderwolf. “Thunder Bay gets really cold and not having a car can be a challenge so the financial assistance will help with not only buying groceries but calling a taxi to get back home!”

The UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship offers a total of $18,000 in scholarships to UFCW Canada members and their families and is one of more than 25 union scholarships available to members and their relatives every year, totaling more than $300,000 in support.
