Manufacturing workers at Stema-Pro Inc. and Rembourrage Pro Inc. join the union – UFCW 1991P

Manufacturing workers at Stema-Pro Inc. and Rembourrage Pro Inc. join the union – UFCW 1991P

Montreal, QC – November 24, 2022 — UFCW Local 1991P is very proud to welcome two new groups of workers from Grand-Mère-based companies Stema-Pro Inc. and Rembourrage Pro Inc. The certification applications were submitted on October 10, 2022, and were approved respectively on November 10 and 14, 2022, by the Labour Administrative Tribunal (TAT). We are thus welcoming around 150 new members from these sister companies specialized in constructing and personalizing first-rate steel furniture for residential and commercial customers.

The new union members work as welders, painters, operators, day labourers, drivers, shipping clerks, sewers, upholsterers, and workshop hands. They are uniting their voice and their demands with UFCW, an international union that represents about 55,000 members in Quebec and more than 250,000 members in Canada.

The reasons why those workers joined UFCW Local 1991P include: many health and security at work issues, inequitable earnings, a well-established favouritism system, lack of seniority, lack of a dental plan and of a wage-loss insurance, a meager vacation ratio, and more.

“We are very proud to welcome in our ranks the workers from Stema-Pro Inc. and Rembourrage Pro Inc. who, for the first time in their history, join a union. By choosing to join our great international organization, these workers improve their power relationship and get a strong voice to negotiate with their employer. We are glad to work with them and for them, welcome to your union,” says UFCW Local 1991P President Mario Maisonneuve.

UFCW Local 1991P represents over 6,000 members in more than 60 companies across Quebec, working in every sector of the food industry and retail, as well as in other sectors such as servicing jobs, food processing, manufacturing, and technical and professional jobs.
