Animal care workers at Oakville & Milton Humane Society join the union – UFCW 175 & 633
Oakville, Ont. – November 14, 2022 – Over 35 animal care workers at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society are celebrating a successful organizing victory after voting yes to join UFCW 175 & 633 in early October.
“Workers in jobs that deal with animal welfare face very real challenges every day,” says UFCW 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “They are caring, understanding and often put the needs of the animals before themselves.”
The new members organized a union after feeling burnt-out and overwhelmed by their working-conditions and wanted to secure their right to negotiate with the employer and meet the industry standard set at other locations.
