The bottom line:
We need to act collectively in ensuring that the Canada Disability Benefit funds are received by persons with disabilities in a timely manner!
We need Bill C-22 to be fast-tracked within the legislative process. We are calling on MPs and Senators in Parliament to pass Bill C-22 by 2022.
There are less than 40 sitting days left in the Parliamentary calendar before the end of the year. We are also asking that the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) be created in 2023.
ALL people living in Canada deserve access to a decent quality of life. This means living without unreasonable restrictions in accessing monetary benefits needed to live while still having the opportunity to be gainfully employed.
Bill C-22 (The Canada Disability Benefit) has the potential to do this if it meaningfully engages with persons with disabilities as equal partners and at every step of the process and in the development of regulations.
It is up to the disability community and allies to keep up the pressure to get Bill C-22 passed in 2022.
Living with a disability should not mean living in poverty!
Send a letter to your Member of Parliament or Senator to show that you support disability justice across Canada and urge them to pass C-22 by 2022 and create the CDB by 2023.
In doing so, we hold solidarity with members of the disability community and disability organizations like Disability Without Poverty and Inclusion Canada in leading this advocacy across Canada.
We need the federal government to pass Bill C-22 and Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)!
