Loblaw members avoid strike, ratify new contract – UFCW 247
Surrey, B.C. – July 18, 2022 – UFCW 247 members at Loblaw distribution centres and Real Canadian Superstores recently ratified a new collective agreement, avoiding strike action at locations across the province of B.C.
“We recognize this was a difficult decision for many members and would like to thank all who participated in the process,” says UFCW 247 President Dan Goodman. “Thousands of members across the province have engaged their union and we will continue to listen and support them as we build even greater solidarity among B.C.’s retail and warehouse workers.”
The ratification ends several months of tense negotiations between members and the employer, which sparked the mobilization of picket lines up until the final hours when an agreement was reached.
The new contract includes increases to wages, shift premiums, guaranteed hours, and singing bonuses, among other improvements. To read more about the collective bargaining victory at Loblaw, click here.
