Food retail workers at Metro Val Est join the union – UFCW 175 & 633
Sudbury, Ont. – May 24, 2022 – Nearly 100 food retail workers at Metro Val Est are the newest members to join UFCW 175 & 633 after securing a successful electronic vote that will see them join forces with thousands of Metro workers across the province of Ontario.
“We welcome these new members to our local union,” says UFCW 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “We look forward to working with them through the collective bargaining process to achieve gains that other Metro workers currently enjoy.”
Workers joined UFCW 175 & 633 after their store went corporate two years ago. They are hoping to secure regular wage increases, a pension, and benefits, among other improvements. The new members work as cashiers, bakery, deli and meat clerks, scanning coordinators, meat cutters, and wrappers.
