Cannabis workers at Eggs Canna join the union – UFCW 1518
Vancouver – April 1, 2022 – Cannabis workers at Eggs Canna in Vancouver are the newest members to join BC BUD, a division of UFCW Local 1518, after a successful unionization vote in March.
“Workers have been at the forefront of this industry from its inception, shapeshifting cannabis to benefit their communities, and their influence is only growing,” says UFCW 1518 Secretary-Treasurer Patrick Johnson. “From growth to distribution, sale, delivery and consumption, cannabis must serve everyday people and workers can ensure it does by unionizing.”
Workers at the Eggs Canna East Hastings location become the first private-sector dispensary to unionize in Vancouver after many successful campaigns across British Columbia, which have seen nearly 70 percent of Victoria’s cannabis retail locations unionize.
The new members are eager to start collective bargaining, where they will look to address wages, benefits, respect on the job, and overall working conditions that reflect their high level of training and product knowledge.
