Protect Labour Rights in Saskatchewan: Stop Bill 85!

In 2012, Brad Wall’s Saskatchewan government pushed for some very dangerous and unfair reforms to weaken the Saskatchewan Employment Act and the labour rights of workers.

UFCW Canada activist and allies stopped Wall’s most dangerous amendments, through a combination of community action, public policy submissions, pro-worker political efforts by the NDP, and a lack of support for these backward propositions from business and employers.

But working families in Saskatchewan still face Wall’s dangerous and unfair reforms under Bill 85:The Saskatchewan Employment Act – Labour Relations, which would:

• Dramatically increase the numbers of employees who are not eligible for union membership
• Impose a separate bargaining unit for supervisors
• Carve up existing bargaining units into smaller ones
• Allow for serious governmental interference in the bargaining process

Brad Wall’s proposed Bill 85 is ill advised and will not lead to effective labour relations for workers or their employers.
