Grocery workers at Marché Adonis join the union – UFCW 500
Montreal – July 16, 2021 – UFCW Canada is proud to welcome food retail workers from the Marché Adonis grocery store located in the Dollard-des-Ormeaux area of Montreal. These new members are the first group of workers in the Marché Adonis grocery chain to organize a union in order to raise wages, gain respect, and improve scheduling at work.
"Becoming members of our local union will give the workers at Marché Adonis in Dollard-des-Ormeaux the tools they need to negotiate good working conditions and advance their demands,” says UFCW 500 President Antonio Filato. “We are proud to welcome these members to our local union and we are inspired by their confidence in us."
The union’s certification petition was recently recognized by the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT). The new members at Marché Adonis specialize in the sale of Lebanese, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean food products.
More than 35,000 UFCW Local 500 members work at over 650 locations across Quebec. To learn more about the outstanding work of UFCW 500, visit the Local Union's website.
