Victory for Lady Comeau III members – UFCW 864
Saulnierville, N.S. – April 12, 2021 – UFCW 864 members at Comeau Seafoods Limited deployed from the Shelburne Harbour aboard Lady Comeau III vessel have voted to accept a new union contract with historic victories for the industry.
The Lady Comeau III is the newest and largest vessel in the Atlantic’s sea scallop industry. The new contract guarantees 100% of earnings come in the form of salary or wages, in addition to commitments that the company pay for all operating expenses including: fuel, food, gear and clothing.
Vacation pay, sick days and bereavement leave have also been added to the new contract. Crew members become employees in every sense of the word, which has not been the case over the last several decades.
“We are pleased with the results that have been accomplished working together as a committee, determined to achieve a union contract that sets the standard going forward in the industry,” says Mark Dobson President Eastern Provinces Council. “The members are excited to get back to doing what they do best, on the biggest and best vessel in the fleet.”
Comeau Seafoods is a locally owned Nova Scotia company with members that harvest scallops sold throughout the world.
