Café workers at Matchstick Coffee join the union – UFCW 1518
Vancouver – November 16, 2020 – Café workers at Matchstick Coffee locations across Vancouver are the newest members of UFCW Local 1518 after recently voting to join the union.
After weeks of waiting for the result of the certification vote, UFCW 1518 was certified as the official bargaining agent for the popular coffee shop company on November 9.
“Congratulations to the workers at Matchstick Coffee on voting to join UFCW 1518,” says Kim Novak, President of UFCW Local 1518. “We look forward to working with these progressive coffee specialists to help build a better workplace as we work towards negotiations for a first contract,” she adds.
Based in Vancouver, Matchstick Coffee is a small, local chain of gourmet coffee shops, with five locations across the city.
The winning unionization drive at Matchstick comes on the heels of a new campaign from UFCW 1518, called Café Workers United, that is aimed at helping café workers throughout B.C. gain the union advantage at work. To read more about the Café Workers United campaign, click here.
