Manufacturing members at Western Glove Works gain better wages, more sick days – UFCW 832
Winnipeg – November 2, 2020 – UFCW Local 832 members working at Western Glove Works have ratified a new two-year collective agreement that provides better wages, increased sick days, and more.
Western Glove Works is one of the largest Canadian apparel producers and a leader in the denim industry, serving markets worldwide. COVID-19 has put a strain on certain aspects of the business and brought the bargaining committee into some difficult discussions with the employer. As a result, members agreed to freeze wages in the first year of the contract but will see a 3 percent wage increase in the second year.
Other highlights of the new agreement include an increase in sick time for members and improved contract language.
“Negotiations were difficult for this group of members, who work hard to supply Silver jeans around the world,” says UFCW 832 Negotiator Phil Kraychuk. “COVID-19 has impacted many employers, including Western Glove Works, but in the end these difficult conversations brought us to some positive outcomes,” he adds.
