Restaurant workers at La Cage Brasserie Sportive join the union – UFCW 500

Montreal – September 5, 2020 – Restaurant workers at La Cage Brasserie Sportive on Côte-Vertu Boulevard in Montreal are the newest members of UFCW Local 500 after recently saying “Yes!” to joining the union. The employees’ application for union certification was approved by Quebec’s Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT) on August 25.

Workers at the popular sports bar contacted UFCW 500 because they wanted a strong and united voice to negotiate with their employer on issues such as tip sharing and scheduling. In addition, workers would also like to see new challenges surrounding COVID-19 addressed by the employer.

With their commitment and expertise, and desire to help their restaurant recover from the COVID-19 crisis, the new union members are well positioned to find innovative and sustainable solutions that will benefit both parties.

“UFCW Local 500 is excited to welcome this new group of workers to our great organization. By joining forces with the more than 35,000 members of the UFCW 500, nearly 3,000 of whom work in the restaurant and hotel industries, the new members at La Cage Brasserie Sportive have not only improved their bargaining power – they have also gained a strong voice in the workplace that can help them improve their working conditions and build a better life,” says UFCW 500 President Antonio Filato.

UFCW Local 500 represents over 35,000 members working at more than 675 companies across the province of Quebec. To learn more about UFCW 500 and its outstanding work, visit the Local Union’s website.
