Warehouse members at Ryder Truck Rental achieve first contract
Caledon, Ont. – July 22, 2020 – Despite the difficulties posed by COVID-19, UFCW Local 1006A members working at the Ryder Truck Rental warehouse in Caledon, Ontario have ratified their first union contract.
Highlights of the new three-year collective agreement include:
- Wage increases of 3 percent in Years 1 and 2 of the contract and 2.75 percent in Year 3;
- A new paid sick day; and
- Statutory holidays will count towards regular hours for calculating overtime.
Negotiations were led by UFCW 1006A Union Representative Dustin Magee, with support from Union Representative Ray Ramkhelawan and members Ramanpreet Singh Johal, Ralph Baker, Jacob Boyuton, and Kirk Gonsalves.
“This is a good contract,” says Ramanpreet Singh Johal. “The union helped us learn about our rights and how we can fight for them, and what we can do to improve things in the future.”
Members at Ryder proudly joined UFCW Local 1006A in November 2019.
“We are proud of the new members and their determination in achieving a strong first contract,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “By working together, the Ryder members have established a solid foundation to build on,” he adds.
