Social service members at Wings of Power build a better life – UFCW 832

Pine Falls, Man. – June 11, 2020 – UFCW 832 members working at Wings of Power have built a better life by ratifying a new union contract that provides wage gains and more.

The new 1-year collective agreement brings a 1.5 percent increase in wages, cleans up previous contract language, and addresses several issues that members were experiencing with respect to their personal vehicles for work.

“This bargaining unit provides vital services in rural Manitoba that help members of the community prosper,” says UFCW 832 Union Negotiator Phil Kraychuk. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the members at Wings of Power have been doing incredible work.”

The contract was bargained entirely through remote meetings, using online tools and mail-in ballots to ensure that members and their union followed public health advice during COVID-19. All communication with the membership was done via mail, e-mail, and telephone town hall meetings.

Wings of Power is a grassroots community and family-based resource centre with a parent-child focus. They strive to empower families by offering resources to enhance wellness, learning, and growth opportunities for children and families. UFCW 832 members work in day programs and group homes located in Pine Falls, Manitoba. They assist supported individuals with day-to-day living at the homes and provide programing activities in the day program.
