Meat processing members at HyLife Foods achieve major gains – UFCW 832
Neepawa, Man. – June 4, 2020 – UFCW Local 832 members working at HyLife Foods have achieved a new union contract that provides wage gains, improved benefits, and more.
Through tireless work, the bargaining committee was able to reach a collective agreement that exceeds industry standards and delivers several improvements for HyLife members.
“I’m very proud of the bargaining committee and the membership at HyLife,” says Bea Bruske, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 832. “The members at HyLife work incredibly hard, and they deserve a fair contract that acknowledges their efforts. This new contract brings in many new financial improvements, as well as $1.1 million in reclassification funds.”
Other improvements in the agreement include:
- Fair wage increases;
- Increased premiums;
- Increases to the Health and Welfare Plan;
- Up to 40 hours of banked overtime;
- Improved and streamlined job postings;
- Less mandated Saturday work; and
- Updated vacation provisions.
In order to follow public health advice during the COVID-19 pandemic, the union held 10 separate meetings over the weekend where members were able to ask questions at a safe social distance. To read more about the new union contract at HyLife Foods, click here.
HyLife Foods is a pork processing plant located in Neepawa, Manitoba. UFCW Local 832 represents over 1,100 members at the plant, who cut and pack pork products.
