Security members at GardaWorld achieve better wages, benefits – UFCW 1400
Saskatoon, Sask. – February 29, 2020 – UFCW Local 1400 members working at GardaWorld security locations throughout Saskatchewan have achieved a new union contract that provides better wages and benefits and a higher shoe allowance.
Language negotiated in the new collective agreement limits the number of out-of-scope mobile guards and requires the employer to provide a list of new hires and their locations within 30 days of hiring to enable the union to offer them new hire orientation.
New safety shoe language allows employees who are required to wear Metatarsal protection boots to combine two years of entitlement for a total of $300 for their shoe allowance.
Maternity and adoption leave have been changed to protect members taking longer than 12 months of leave. As well, new language has been added for Family Responsibility Leave.
The new contract also secures wage increases of 1.5 percent in each year of the agreement, while members in the Primary Care Paramedic classification will see wage increases of 2 percent. The union was also successful in deleting language that allowed the employer to delay any wage increases if the contract expired within the first 6 months of the year.
Finally, the three-year collective agreement provides increases to the employee dental plan and the health and benefit plan. To read more about the new union contract at GardaWorld, click here.
