Regina, Sask. – February 10, 2020 – UFCW Local 1400 members working at PepsiCo Canada in Regina have achieved a new union contract that provides wage increases, higher shift premiums, and an increased footwear allowance, among other gains.
Under the new three-year collective agreement, the PepsiCo Canada members will see their safety footwear allowance rise from $125 to $135 (two times per year), as well as increases to shift premiums, the meal allowance, and the lead hand and relief premiums.
Bereavement leave will expand the definition of immediate family (five days leave with pay) to include a grandparent. Language that previously held employees responsible for collecting customer cash accounts has been deleted, while language requiring the employer to replace tools at the same quality and value of the tool being replaced has been added. The employer will also now cover the full cost of the long-term disability benefit.
Finally, wages will increase by 20 cents per hour in the first year of the contract (retroactively), and 60 cents per hour in both the second and the third year of the agreement. These yearly increases amount to roughly 2 to 2.7 percent of pay, depending on an employee’s wage rate.
