St. John’s, N.L., Halifax, N.S., Montreal, London, Ont., Calgary, and Vancouver – October 21, 2019 – From St. John’s to Vancouver, and numerous cities in between, UFCW activists from across Canada joined families, friends and neighbours at Light the Night walks to support and fundraise for the life changing and life saving work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

UFCW Canada members, activists and Local Unions in Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, London, St. John’s, and Vancouver walked in unity at twilight on October 19, carrying illuminated lanterns symbolizing light in the dark world of cancer – red lanterns for supporters, white lanterns for patients and survivors, and gold lanterns for friends and family members who have lost someone to blood cancers.

The October 19 walks built on the success of earlier events in the Light the Night calendar this fall in Toronto, Winnipeg and Saskatoon and Regina.

The popular annual cross-country event contributes thousands of dollars to the vital research, outreach, and education work of the LLSC, to help make a difference in the lives of more than 140,000 Canadians affected by leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and other blood cancers.
Last year, UFCW Canada members and Local Unions across the country helped raised over $2.3 million and over $43 million since 1985, making the UFCW Canada family of members, activists, and Local Unions the largest annual donor to the life changing efforts of the  LLSC.
