Food retail members at Metro Bayridge achieve new contract – UFCW 175
Kingston, Ont. – October 19, 2019 –UFCW 175 members at the Metro Bayridge Road supermarket in Kingston have ratified a new collective agreement with a number of gains and improvements.
The Union Negotiating Committee worked hard to achieve a good agreement with improvements the members at the store wanted to see. Some of the gains and improvements include:
-
better scheduling language for full-time employees at Metro Bayridge that provides full-timers a regular day off during the week when feasible;
-
evening shifts scheduled to 10 p.m., instead of 10:30 p.m.;
-
Group 2 employees can be scheduled three evening shifts per week, only to a maximum of three weeks in a row. Every fourth week may only have a maximum of two evening shifts for those workers. Group 2 employees will also receive a two-day weekend once every five weeks;
-
all employees working between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. will receive the night shift premium now;
-
full-time employees are now guaranteed an eight-hour shift when working a statutory holiday;
-
and a number of monetary improvements, including higher end rates for part-time employees.
The contract covers more than 70 members at the store. You can get the full story of the new collective agreement at Metro Bayridge here.
