Toronto – September 30, 2019 – UFCW Canada activists joined thousands of protestors in various locations throughout Canada on Friday to demonstrate for climate justice as part of Climate Strikes across the country.
At the strikes, UFCW joined other participants in recording the historic day of action through social media, and together called on political and corporate leaders to act immediately in addressing climate change.
The Canadian Climate Strikes were some of the many strikes held in hundreds of countries around the world as part of the Global Climate Strike movement.
“UFCW stands in solidarity with the millions of activists across the globe who are demanding real action on climate change,” said Paul Meinema, the national president of UFCW Canada. “Our union is calling on the federal and provincial governments to treat the climate crisis like the emergency it is by taking concrete steps to combat climate change now,” the UFCW leader added.
In addition to UFCW’s participation in the Climate Strikes, our union is also calling on Canada’s federal political parties to commit to real action on climate change in the 2019 Federal Election campaign. To learn more about this important work, visit the UFCW Votes website.
