Health care workers at Residence Bromont get better wages, more vacation
Bromont, Que. – September 26, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 1991P members working at Residence Bromont, a senior living facility near Granby, Quebec, have achieved a new union contract that provides better wages and more vacation, among other gains.
The Residence Bromont members work as nurses, nursing assistants, care attendants, resident attendants, cooks, assistant cooks, dishwashers, waitresses, housekeepers, and maintenance workers.
Under their new collective agreement, which runs until 2025, members will see wage increases as high as 11.6 percent. It will also take fewer hours for members to reach the next level in the salary scale. Other highlights of the agreement include:
- A fourth vacation week after seven years of seniority;
- Holidays with pay are equal to regularly paid days; and
- Recognition of previous experience in another, comparable institution for wages.
“We are very pleased with the results of the negotiations for workers at Residence Bromont,” says Mario Maisonneuve, President of UFCW Local 1991P. “Both sides worked to make this a worthwhile contract through 2025,” he adds.
