Hospitality members at Swiss Chalet secure benefit, wage gains – UFCW 1006A
Vaughan, Ont. – September 10, 2019 – UFCW Local 1006A members working at Swiss Chalet restaurants across Ontario have ratified a new union contract that provides benefit and wage gains and an improved shoe allowance.
The new collective agreement covers approximately 2,200 hospitality members and runs until May 2024.
“I am proud to congratulate our negotiating committee for achieving a fair and strong contract for members at Swiss Chalet,” says Wayne Hanley, President of UFCW 1006A. “These were challenging negotiations, but as always, committee members worked tirelessly to protect members’ interests and rights in the face of a changing restaurant industry. Thank you to all members who participated and made their voices heard during negotiations,” he adds.
The committee achieved several gains, including all eligible members being covered under the company benefit plan (improved language), increases to the shoe allowance for all members, and improvements to the wage grid.
Negotiations were led by Executive Assistants to the President Frank Ragni and Dan Gilbert, with support from Union Representatives Rick Del Fiacco, Joe Blythe, Daiana Dumitru, Roland Lapins, Gord Albert, Greg Penner, and Carla MacFarlane, as well as members Kim Desroche, Brian Dulong, Anita Hurley, Mattea Quakenbush, Alyssa Del Fiacco, Danielle Hayes, Phyllis Hannivan, and Frank Tamburini.
