Politics Blog: Wab Kinew and the NDP are the better choice for Manitobans
Winnipeg – August 10, 2019 – Manitobans will be going to go to the polls on September 10 to decide who will govern their province. They’ll be asking, “who will make life better for me and my family, and who is the best leader to move the province forward?”
Manitobans need innovative solutions to the challenges they face. They look to their government to make life more affordable and to protect vital public services like health care. The NDP’s "For All of Us" commitment speaks to where Wab Kinew and the NDP are focused: on all the people; not just the rich and big corporations.
The NDP platform focuses on affordability and ensuring that everyday families have more money in their pockets at the end of the day. The NDP have also pledged to reopen the emergency departments at Seven Oaks and Concordia hospitals. Manitobans want and expect quality public health care, and to put the brakes on any further cuts or closures.
On the other hand, the Pallister Conservatives support a rigged system that favours their wealthy and powerful donors. Since coming into power back in 2016, the Pallister Conservatives have made life more difficult for average hard-working Manitobans. That would undoubtedly continue if the Conservatives were re-elected as the government.
Pallister’s Conservatives closed three Winnipeg area emergency rooms. They have forced people to drive further for health care, or even delay vitally needed care altogether – potentially resulting in higher health care down the road when their condition worsens.
Manitobans have also been very clear they don’t want health care premiums. Pallister said he wouldn’t introduce premiums in his first term. But the writing is on the wall. If Pallister and his Conservatives are re-elected, it is a certainty that his proposed annual health care premiums of up to $900 an adult would make life more painful for Manitoba workers and families.
Manitobans can’t afford other Pallister government. Wab Kinew and the NDP are the better choice, with their commitment to fix the health crisis, grow the economy and jobs, and help nurture a good and affordable quality of life for all Manitobans.
