Markham, Ont. – January 28, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 1000A recently welcomed a new group of LensCrafters workers to the union after they voted a resounding “Yes!” to UFCW Canada. LensCrafters is one of Canada’s largest eyewear retailers, and the new Local 1000A members work at the company’s location in Markham, Ontario at the Markville Shopping Centre.
Local 1000A reports that the new LensCrafters members joined the union to gain more fairness and respect in the workplace and felt UFCW Canada provided the best and strongest voice for helping them to achieve their goals.
“On behalf of Local 1000A, I congratulate the workers for their courage and determination in achieving this victory for their future,” says Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer.
Local 1000A represents three other LensCrafters stores in Ontario; two in Toronto at the city’s Eaton's Centre, and Yorkdale Mall, plus another location in Burlington.
“This was a worker driven campaign and we commend the workers at LensCrafters Markville for coming together and standing up for what they believe in,” says Jonathan Lobo, organizing coordinator for Local 1000A.
