Food retail members at Fresh St. Market achieve full benefits – UFCW 247

Hospitality members at Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre win gainsSurrey, B.C. – March 30, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 247 members working at Fresh St. Market locations across Greater Vancouver have ratified a new union contract that provides better benefits, wage increases, and more.

A new full benefits package is among the many improvements that members will enjoy under the new collective agreement. The package includes:

  • Prescription drug coverage;
  • A dental plan; and
  • Professional medical services, including:
    • Acupuncturist;
    • Chiropractor;
    • Physiotherapy;
    • Vision care;
    • Hospital stays; and
    • Medical aids and equipment, including hearing aids.

The benefits will also be extended to spouses and dependants of UFCW 247 members.

In addition, the wage grid has been reduced by more than 4,000 hours, with the lower end of the wage scale seeing much larger increases than the previous scale.

Proper meat cutting apprenticeship language was also introduced for a smoother transition from apprenticeship to journeyman wage rates. To read more about the new union contract for members at Fresh St. Market, click here.
