Saskatoon, Sask. – January 25, 2013 – UFCW Canada women activists recently joined more than 150 sisters from across Saskatchewan, as labour, community and social activists gathered in Saskatoon for the first-ever Saskatchewan Women’s Forum 2013: Connecting Voices for Change – to share their stories, connect with each other, and discuss issues relevant to women in Saskatchewan and all over the world.

The forum began with an opening prayer from Elder Marjorie Beaucage of Duck Lake who encouraged participants to share, and most importantly, listen to one another. “Let us not close any doors. Let us leave them open and share them together,” said Sister Beaucage.

Connecting for Change was the first forum of its kind in the province and "was a great opportunity for Sisters to connect with other Sisters and weigh in on issues affecting Saskatchewan women," said Terry Harris, president of UFCW Canada Local 649, who attended the forum along with Local 649 member Lana Peat-Quennell; Local 1400 member & Women’s Advisory Committee member Judy Hrycuik; and national representative Lily Olson.

During the forum's plenary sessions, participants had the opportunity to “pitch” different topics and break into smaller groups and have conversations, share knowledge and ask questions. Women in Politics, Intergenerational Feminism, Health and Mental Health, Pay Equity, and Child Care were just some of the workshops held to create an opportunity for the participants to collectively develop how to move forward on the issues important to Saskatchewan women and families.
