Toronto– October 22, 2018 – From St. John’s to Vancouver, and cities in between, UFCW activists from across Canada joined families, friends and neighbours at Light the Night walks to support and fundraise for the life changing and life saving work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

UFCW Canada members, activists and Local Unions in St. John’s, Montreal, London, Saskatoon, and Vancouver walked in unity at twilight on October 13, while holding illuminated lanterns with red for supporters, white for patients and survivors, and gold to remember loved ones lost. UFCW Canada and Local Unions are proud sponsors and supporters of Light the Night Walks across the country.

In Toronto, UFCW activists and family members joined other Toronto-area participants on October 19, for a Light the Night Walk that set out from Toronto City Hall, to help make a difference in the lives of more than 140,000 Canadians affected by leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and other blood cancers.

UFCW Canada members and Local Unions fundraised over $2.5 million last year and over $41.4 million since 1985, in support of the vital research, outreach and education work of the LLSC – making the UFCW Canada family of members, activists and Local Unions the largest annual donor to the LLSC.

Each year, the LLSC presents the UFCW Canada Award for Leukemia Research to its top-scoring operating research grant applicant. This vital partnership has contributed to many advancements in the treatment and outcomes of blood cancer.
