Healthcare workers at Bayfield Manor join the union – UFCW 175

Cheers to Molson-Coors members at UFCW 501 in Quebec for new union contractKemptville, Ont. – August 26, 2018 – Healthcare workers at Bayfield Manor in Kemptville, Ontario, recently chose the union advantage by voting to join UFCW Local 175.

Bayfield Manor is a nursing and retirement care residence that employs about 155 healthcare workers, including registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs), personal support workers (PSWs), dietary aides, housekeeping, laundry aides, and activities aides.

The Bayfield Manor workers became the newest members of UFCW 175 following a second union certification vote.

Last year, UFCW 175 filed a complaint (called a section 11) with the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB), claiming the employer interfered with the employees’ ability to organize.

As a result, the labour board awarded the union three meetings with the employees, and a second vote.
The vote recently took place, and the Bayfield Manor employees voted to join the union.

The Bayfield Manor members join more than 10,000 healthcare workers who are proudly represented by UFCW across Canada. To find out more about the union’s healthcare membership, as well as other UFCW Canada core sectors, check out the 2017 UFCW Canada Annual Report.
