Quebec YIP session inspires new generation of young activists

Orford, Que. – July 6, 2018 – Canada’s best program from young labour activists, the UFCW Canada Young-Workers Internship Program, recently travelled to Quebec for another successful week of dynamic learning and training.

Known throughout the province as SAJ, the program brought together 20 young UFCW Canada members from across Quebec for a jam-packed week shedding light on topics ranging from labour history, to organizing and globalization.

The program also took an in-depth look at challenges many workers face both at home and abroad, spotlighting local and international issues affecting the working community. Through a series of hands-on activities, participants also received training in collective bargaining, focusing on skills essential for helping UFCW members excel in their workplace and at the bargaining table.

“The Young-Workers Internship Program continues to be a great resource for young members looking to be more involved within their union,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “It is about empowering our young members and the ongoing strength and success of programs such as YIP that UFCW Canada continues to evolve and become a stronger union,” he adds.
