Metro Vancouver, B.C. – May 17, 2018 – Members of the UFCW Canada Local 247 Women’s Committee reached out to the community for Mother’s Day by hosting a barbecue for women and children who have been impacted by domestic abuse.
Held at a second-stage housing facility for survivors of domestic violence, the Mother’s Day BBQ enabled women and children at the facility to have a special day of their own with a full meal and child care services provided by volunteers.
At the barbecue, attendees were offered a range of food options – including gluten free, vegetarian, and Halal – to ensure that everyone’s dietary needs were accommodated.
“It was great to see the changes in the children and how much they’ve grown, and to hear about the difference this facility is making in the lives of those who have been impacted by domestic abuse,” says Tima Dickerson, Chair of the UFCW 247 Women’s Committee.
