Montreal – March 8, 2018 – UFCW Canada activists joined over 200 allies and community activists in Montreal on March 1 and 2 for the first stop of the Progress Summit Tour 2018. The Summit is Canada’s largest annual progressive policy and activism conference. It brings together activists, labour allies, politicians, academics, and community stakeholders focused on an agenda to build fairness, equity, inclusion, and economic security for working families.

At the Montreal session, 30 panelists and presenters including Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, discussed strategies on how to challenge inequality, build progressive alliances and push for policies and regulations to stimulate an economy that works for all Canadians.

"This summit was a vital forum for progressive activists from all walks of life to expand their horizons and work together to promote progressive policies and perspectives,” said UFCW Canada Local 500 President Antonio Filato, who led the Local 500 caucus at the summit. “Unions have an important role to play in the development and delivery of social justice and a better life for the community."

The Progress Summit is an initiative of the Broadbent Institute. UFCW Canada is a founding sponsor of the Institute as well as the Summit itself, which over the next two months will be taking its tour to Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Saskatoon.
