Members at Metro Bruyère achieve new contract – UFCW 500

Montreal – February 17, 2018 – UFCW Canada Local 500 members working at the Metro Bruyère supermarket in Montreal have recently ratified a new collective agreement.

The new six-year contract includes wage increases of 2% for every 650 hours worked. As well, whenever there is a rise to the minimum wage, workers at the beginning of the pay scale will receive wage increases between $0.25 and $2.50 per hour worked depending on their classification. Workers at the top end of the scale will receive a hybrid combination of wage increases and lump sum payments based on their classification.

Other improvements include the creation of 11 additional full-time positions with paid casual leave days.

Also included in the new contract are:

  • Increases in Christmas bonuses from 1.5% to 2%;
  • New service supervisor premium of $0.75 per hour;
  • Continuation of the employers’ contribution of $0.18 per hour worked per employee to the UFCW Quebec Dental Care Plan and, in the event the contribution becomes insufficient, it will be increased to $0.19 to maintain the 80% reimbursement of eligible expenses for dental services.

“Workers at Metro Bruyère have every reason to be proud of their new collective agreement,” says UFCW Local 500 President Antonio Filato. “This new contract will help secure almost 100 quality jobs while maintaining decent working conditions in the retail food sector for the next six years,” Brother Filato adds.
