Alliston, Ont. – June 20, 2017 – Young UFCW Canada members from across Ontario recently gathered in Alliston for the latest session of the 2017 UFCW Canada Young-Workers Internship Program.
The Ontario session brought together 19 participants from UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633, Local 1006A, Local 333, and Local 12R24 for a week of dynamic learning and training on a variety of topics ranging from organizing to learning creative ways to become more active in their Local Unions and communities.
The course focused on taking an in-depth look at some of the everyday challenges many workers face both at home and abroad, as well as examined local and international issues affecting the working community.
Rechev Brown, a UFCW 1006A member and participant of the 2016 YIP program was selected as a co-facilitator for this year's Ontario session.
"It is important to encourage other young members to become more active and involved within their union and the UFCW family," says Brother Browne. "Last year, I had the opportunity to take part in what was a life-changing experience for me. YIP inspires and equips activists with the necessary tools to make a positive difference within the workplace and the community.”
The 2017 UFCW Canada Young-Workers Internship Program continues onto its next stop in Gimli, Manitoba for the Prairies session, for what is shaping up to be another exciting week. To learn more about YIP, click here. You can also follow the program on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
