Workers at Liberté Saint-Hyacinthe join the union – UFCW 1991P

Workers at Liberté Saint-Hyacinthe join the union – UFCW 1991PSaint-Hyacinthe, Que. – April 27, 2017 – Workers at the Liberté yogurt plant in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 1991P after saying “Yes!” to joining the union.

On April 18, Quebec’s labour tribunal certified Local 1991P to represent the 190 plant employees at Liberté Saint-Hyacinthe, who work as pasteurizers, operators, general assistants, electromechanical technicians, and instrumentation technicians.

Belonging to the Yoplait dairy products processor, the Liberté plant produces Yop drinkable yogurts, as well as Liberté and Yoplait branded products.

“We would like to extend a warm welcome to the workers at Liberté Saint-Hyacinthe, who have proudly chosen 1991P as their official bargaining agent,” says Mario Maisonneuve, President of UFCW Canada Local 1991P. “By joining UFCW, the new members at Liberté will be able to improve their working conditions and will have a strong voice in their workplace and at the bargaining table,” Brother Masionneuve adds.
