Young-Workers Internship Program (YIP)

Since its inception in 2000, the UFCW Young Workers Internship Program (YIP) has become one of the most respected and comprehensive training and education initiatives available to young UFCW members across Canada. Designed for those who aspire to deepen their involvement in their union, the program offers a unique opportunity to explore key issues such as Labour History, Organizing, Globalization, Union Politics, and more. YIP is a vital platform for young members to connect with one another and engage in meaningful discussions on topics that are critical to both their personal growth and the advancement of the labour movement.

Through dynamic course discussions and hands-on learning, YIP fosters a deeper understanding of the complexities of the economy, globalization, organizing, human rights, and the power of collective action. The program emphasizes how young workers can drive change with their Local Unions and beyond, empowering them to play a key role in shaping the future of the labour movement.

In 2025, the UFCW Young Workers Internship Program will host five sessions across Canada, providing participants with invaluable opportunities to gain real-world experience. Gain hands-on experience in organizing, labour history, union politics, health & safety, and the power of collective bargaining. Learn how to create real change—both in your workplace and in your community—by taking an active role in the issues that matter most to you and your fellow workers. YIP equips young union members with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become tomorrow’s leaders in the fight for workers’ rights.
