Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Que. – January 5, 2017 – UFCW Canada Local 501 members working at Kapta in Notre-Dame-des-Pins recently ratified a new collective agreement. The five-year contract, which was approved by 92 percent of the bargaining unit, came into effect in November 2016 and will run through July 2021.
Kapta manufactures display stands – such as merchandising units and advertising posters – and also provides digital printing for store banners and signage.
The new agreement brings many gains to the Kapta members, including:
-
Skills bonuses that are less arbitrary and easier to access;
-
Increased seniority protection from 30 to 36 months in the event of an accident or illness;
-
A new employer contribution of $0.18 per hour per worker to the UFCW Quebec Dental Care Plan as of November 2016;
-
An employer contribution to the FTQ Solidarity Fund; and
-
Wage increases of 4.3 percent upon signing the agreement, and 2.5 percent per year thereafter.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved with this contract,” says Daniel Nadeau, the Local 501 Director for Eastern Quebec. “Negotiations were harmonious, and the members were able to maintain acquired benefits and improve their working conditions. Congratulations to the Kapta members, as well as the entire negotiating committee!”
