UFCW Canada activists show their Pride in nation's capital

Ottawa – August 24, 2016 – The rain couldn't dampen the spirits of UFCW Canada activists who participated in this year's Capital Pride parade in Ottawa.

The parade was part of the 31st annual Capital Pride Festival and featured a variety of floats, marchers and thousands of spectators along the parade route showing their pride in the nation's capital.

Activists from UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633 and from Local 1006A proudly marched in the parade, banding together to celebrate diversity and show their support for the LGBTQ community.

"Marching with my union, I have found a voice. It is a voice of inclusion, a voice of love and acceptance and this voice, giving perspective of possibilities of family, possibilities of finding love," said UFCW Canada Local 1006A member Danea Lau. "The voices of solidarity will always spur us to be the best of ourselves."

The parade, which started at Gladstone Avenue and Bank Street, ended at the newly installed rainbow crosswalk painted at the intersection of Bank and Somerset in the heart of Ottawa's Centretown neighbourhood.

As Canada's most diverse and progressive union, UFCW Canada activists and Local Unions have added to the rainbow from coast-to-coast as participants in Pride parades, events and festivals across the country.
