Young workers build momentum at Atlantic YIP session

Moncton, N.B. – May 20, 2016 – UFCW Canada's groundbreaking Young-Workers Internship Program (YIP) recently headed out to the East Coast for another successful week of dynamic training and education.

Members from UFCW Canada Locals 864, 1252 and 1288P were the latest participants in Canada's leading program for young labour activists. Together, they navigated through a variety of topics such as working collectively, and learning how young workers can become more involved in their union and their communities.

The Atlantic YIP group also showed solidarity with striking UFCW Canada Local 1288P members at Covered Bridge Potato Chips in New Brunswick, by creating a series of online posts in order to bring awareness to the strike and to show their support.

"At the end of the week-long session, this talented group of young workers were able to grasp key concepts about the economy, politics, and globalization," says UFCW Canada national representative and YIP co-facilitator Pablo Godoy. "It is now up to them to take what they've learned here to empower other members and young workers just like them at their workplaces and in their communities."
