Users flock to Glenn Weir chicken cannon as business appears to plummet at Best Western Seven Oaks

Regina, Sask. – March 29, 2016 – With the strike at the Best Western Seven Oaks in Regina now in its third month, UFCW Canada has launched a new game that takes aim at Seven Oaks owner and general manager Glenn Weir.

Dubbed the "Bad Western Chicken Cannon," the game allows users to express their dissatisfaction with the treatment of workers at Best Western Seven Oaks by taking aim at the ownership – who refuses to bargain with the unionized workers –with an array of items, from chickens to eggs to compostable waste. Fresh off the heels of a viral video that shows Mr. Weir pushing and screaming at workers who were peacefully distributing literature in front of the hotel, the game is proving to be a major hit with visitors of the UFCW Canada website, as it has already attracted nearly 20,000 hits.

The release of the Bad Western Chicken Cannon game comes at the same time that business at Best Western Seven Oaks appears to be nose-diving, as evidenced by a series of photos published by UFCW Canada Local 1400, the union that represents workers at the hotel. 

The photos reveal a near-empty parking lot at Seven Oaks during March Break, a historically busy period for Regina's hospitality industry, with only a handful of cars parked in the hotel's massive, 100-plus space parking lot. They suggest that the months-long strike appears to be taking a serious toll on business at Best Western Seven Oaks.

Workers at Best Western Seven Oaks have been striking in the cold since last December in an effort to obtain respect and fairness on the job. The Best Western employees are asking for a living wage, fair benefits, and back pay, but Mr. Weir refuses to negotiate with the union, and Best Western International – headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona – has yet to intervene in the negotiations.
