S.A.M.E. gears up for annual tour of schools, colleges to fight migrant exploitation

S.A.M.E. gears up for annual tour of schools, colleges to fight migrant exploitationToronto – February 5, 2016 – Students Against Migrant Exploitation (S.A.M.E.) is getting ready to hit the road again for its annual tour of schools, colleges, and universities across Canada in support of the fight against migrant exploitation.

Over the past five years, S.A.M.E. has reached out to tens of thousands of students in schools and through social media, using innovative strategies such as the #NotMyTomato campaign.

This year's workshops will cover a variety of different topics, including respect for migrant workers, human rights, and engaging young people on the issue of where our food comes from.

The tour and its seminars are conducted by a diverse group of S.A.M.E. members, student chapter presidents, and volunteers. The workshops will also feature several renowned artists and performers, including the international award-winning artist Gilda Monreal.

"We are very excited to show everyone what we have in store for this year's tour," says S.A.M.E. co-ordinator Pablo Godoy. "This year, we will continue to inspire and motivate people of all ages to become active and informed on the issue of migrant exploitation," he adds.

The tour will be kicking off with a gaming tournament sponsored by the S.A.M.E. York University chapter at the Festival of Soccer in Toronto on February 28. It will then continue into March with stops in Quebec and British Columbia to help launch the new Food Chain$ documentary.

Since its inception, S.A.M.E. has grown into Canada's leading organization dedicated to engaging youth on migrant worker issues. If you or your school would like to book a FREE presentation, or would like more information about volunteer opportunities, please contact [email protected] or visit the S.A.M.E.
