Toronto and London, Ont. – October 26, 2015 – UFCW Local 1000A activists, family, friends, and community partners recently participated in the annual Light the Night walks in Toronto and London to help raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

The Light the Night Walk is an evening gathering with family and friends in select cities across Canada to bring light to the dark world of cancer. Thousands of walkers carry illuminated lanterns showcasing their relation to the cause; a white lantern for blood cancer patients and survivors, a red lantern to walk as a supporter, and a gold lantern in memory of a loved one lost.

Thousands of participants illuminated the night's sky at the Light the Night events on October 17th in London's Victoria Park, and October 21st at Toronto's Nathan Philips Square.

"Light the Night is about our collective hope and fight for a cure against this deadly disease that affects so many Canadians from coast to coast," said UFCW Canada Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer. "Many of our members and their families have been personally affected by these blood cancers and as we walk for a cure, we hold the stories of their courageous fights close to our heart. Their spirit and bravery inspires us year to year to help make a difference," Sister Sawyer added.

Currently, there are over 100,000 people in Canada who are either living with or have survived blood cancer. Since 1985, UFCW Canada has raised more than $31 million for the life-changing work of the LLSC.
