Motivated by Change, Canadians finally say goodbye to Harper
Toronto – October 20, 2015 – What an election! Surely pundits and others will be analyzing and writing books on this election for years to come. With the election of a Liberal majority government, Canadians finally get to say goodbye to the Harper era.
However, with such a sweeping change, UFCW Canada will be saying goodbye to many progressive politicians and friends who were defeated on election night. UFCW Canada wishes them well in their future endeavours and looks forward to hopefully seeing them run again.
With that said, the work continues for all Canadians in shaping the Canada and change we want to see. The Liberals made a lot of commitments in this campaign, and we need to ensure that they act on them. The UFCW Canada campaign doesn’t end with election night, as we will be seeking the promised repeal of Bills C-377 and C-525.
It will also be important to push for a new Health accord, the expansion of the Canada Pension Plan, and a plan to create good paying jobs for Canadians. We must continue to fight for these and other issues, because they affect members and their families on a daily basis.
UFCW Canada will remain committed to holding the new government accountable on behalf of members. Together, we can ensure that a better and brighter future begins today.
