Migrant Workers Scholarship nominator profile: Noe Pineda Gonzalez

Toronto – August 15, 2015 – Wendoline Pinenda Cortes is one of 20 recipients of the 2014 UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarship. Wendoline was nominated by her father, Noe Pineda Gonzales, who works in the agricultural industry in Canada under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP).

Originally from Mexico, Noe has been performing agricultural work in Canada for the past 11 years in order to support his wife, Monica, and their three children. Wendoline, 14, is the couple's eldest daughter and is an inspiration to her siblings and her parents alike, excelling in her studies and in sports.

"I am the oldest of three sisters and it is important for me to be able to continue my studies and my sports at the same time," says Wendoline. "In doing so, I can set a positive example for my two younger sisters. Thanks to the UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarship, this will be a lot easier to do now."

"The economic situation in my country is not favourable to people like me who strive to excel in both sports and academia, so I would like to thank UFCW Canada for this support and I can assure you that I will use it to the best of my abilities," Wendoline adds.

Since 2010, UFCW Canada has awarded Migrant Worker Scholarships to over 65 children and families to help assist with their educational pursuits.

The deadline to apply for the 2015 Migrant Workers Scholarship program is December 31, 2015. To find out more about the Migrant Workers Scholarships program, visit ufcw.ca/migrantscholarship.
