Atlanta – July 7, 2015 – UFCW Canada recently joined young activists from across the United States in Atlanta, Georgia to participate in the second annual UFCW Gold Internship Program, an intensive five-week training course for young UFCW members in the U.S.

As part of their first week of in-class training, participants learned about UFCW Canada's Young Workers Internship Program (YIP), a longstanding training and education program for UFCW youth activists here at home. UFCW Canada National Representative Pablo Godoy facilitated a workshop explaining how our union successfully trains, educates, and empowers young workers in Canada through YIP and other outreach efforts, such as S.A.M.E.  

The group of thirty UFCW Gold Internship participants also learned about the civil rights movement while visiting the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and discussed topics ranging from organizing to immigration to politics. Participants of the program will now take part in a four-week action project with UFCW Local Unions from across the U.S.
