Alliston, Ont. – June 19, 2015 – UFCW Canada's Young Worker Internship Program (YIP) recently kicked off the 2015 season with its first group of young workers in Alliston, Ontario. This year's Ontario YIP session brought together UFCW Canada members from across the province to participate in Canada's leading program for young labour activists.

The youth members from UFCW Canada Locals 333, 1000A, 12R24, and 175 & 633 had a busy and empowering week of workshops where participants learned how to become more active in their union and in their community. Other sessions covered collective bargaining, labour history, organizing strategies, and how young activists can build fairness in their workplace.

The young UFCW members actively documented the week and helped launched a new social media initiative called the "Humans of UFCW" campaign, which features a collection of portraits of UFCW members and their stories.

"Throughout the week, one thing was clear: this group of inspiring young members illustrated the desire, motivation, and immense capabilities that young workers everywhere possess," says Pablo Godoy, the National Co-ordinator for UFCW Canada's YIP. "This session was an excellent start to what will no doubt be a very successful YIP season."

The 2015 YIP is now heading west with sessions in the Prairies and British Columbia. For more information about YIP, click here. You can also follow the Program on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
