Mirabel, Que. – June 8, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 501 members working at Hydroserre Mirabel have ratified a new collective agreement. The Hydroserre Mirablel members specialize in the production of lettuce through a hydroponic (soilless) process.
As part of the new contract, members will see numerous improvements to working conditions including wage increases, an evening shift premium, a night shift premium, and a premium for instances where employees are working in the cold.
There have also been changes to seniority language to ensure that seniority within the bargaining unit will now be based on the date of hiring. Employees will also receive a retirement plan under the new agreement.
"We are very happy to have approved such a stellar contract at Hydroserre Mirabel," says UFCW Local 501 President Alain Lachaîne. "In this case, we have achieved a great balance between maintaining good benefits and improving current working conditions," Brother Lachaîne adds.
